Fossil Hockey Puts the Syndicate on Ice in 7-1 Romp
If you showed up to the rink at 9:30 PM expecting a defensive stalemate between two teams jockeying for position in the middle of the pack, you likely walked out wondering what exactly you’d witnessed. Fossil Hockey turned Thursday night into an absolute clinic, dismantling The Syndicate 7-1 in a display of offensive efficiency that made the net look like the size of a garage door.
For the first frame, the ice was tilted, but the scoreboard remained stubbornly quiet. That all changed in the second period, when Fossil Hockey decided to flip the switch. It started with Eron Richards, who opened the floodgates with a beauty assisted by Tyler Waller. Once that first one kissed the back of the twine, the dam burst. Waller followed up his assist with a goal of his own just minutes later, and suddenly, The Syndicate was reeling.
To their credit, The Syndicate found a pulse at 12:35 of the second when Brett Mecham snuck one past the keeper to put them on the board. For a fleeting second, it felt like a potential momentum shift, but Fossil Hockey wasn’t interested in a comeback story tonight. They responded with a flurry of goals from Kelly Rundle, Steve Hash, and Frederic Bassett that effectively turned the remainder of the game into a victory lap.
Eron Richards was, without a shadow of a doubt, the man of the hour. Not content with his second-period heroics, he hammered home his second goal of the night in the third, further padding the lead. Kelly Rundle joined the multi-goal club shortly after, putting the game well out of reach.
“I think we just stopped overthinking it,” said one Fossil Hockey supporter in the stands, clutching a lukewarm post-game drink. “We usually play like we’re trying to solve a calculus problem. Tonight? We were just shooting the puck. Turns out, that works.”
The Syndicate spent much of the third period looking for answers that simply weren’t there, and tensions briefly boiled over at the 8:54 mark when Eron Richards and Haley Griffin were sent to the box for a bit of roughing. It was a spirited exchange, but by then, the only thing left to settle was the final margin.
For Fossil Hockey, this 7-1 shellacking is a massive statement. Coming into the night with a middling 1-1-1 record, they’ve now vaulted themselves out of the shadows of the lower-middle tier. They showed a level of chemistry that had been missing in their previous outings, particularly with Richards, Bassett, and Rundle carving up the Syndicate defense.
As for The Syndicate, it’s back to the drawing board. After a solid start to the season, they’ll want to put this one in the rearview mirror as quickly as possible. The league is crowded, and in this division, you’re only as good as your last shift—and tonight, Fossil Hockey made sure theirs were the ones everyone will be talking about.
