Havok Storms the Rink in 9-1 Rout of Honey Badgers
If you were looking for a quiet Tuesday night at the rink, you clearly picked the wrong game to attend. The Havok and the Honey Badgers came into tonight’s matchup at the bottom of the standings with identical 0-3-1 records, looking for their first win of the season. By the time the final horn sounded, the Havok hadn’t just found a win—they had staged an absolute demolition, walking away with a 9-1 victory that had the scoreboard operator looking for a break.
The Havok came out of the gate with their hair on fire. James Smith got the party started early, burying one off a feed from Steven Purn just over five minutes into the first. Before the Honey Badgers could even find their footing, Zack Wade hammered home an unassisted beauty at the 8:10 mark to double the lead.
If the first period was a warning, the second was a full-blown meteorological event. The Havok poured in five goals in the middle frame, effectively turning the game into a highlight reel. Rocky Ricci was the architect of chaos, finding the back of the net twice in the period. Ricci’s scoring touch has been heating up lately, and tonight he looked like he was playing against traffic cones. His second goal of the period, coming with just 56.7 seconds left on the clock, was the exclamation point on a dominant display. Triston Wilson and Logan Singleton also joined the scoring parade, with Wilson’s presence felt all over the ice.
The only bright spot for the Honey Badgers came midway through the second when Andrew Sleezer finally solved the Havok defense, assisted by Michael Pacheco. It was a brief flicker of hope for the Badgers, but it was quickly extinguished by the relentless Havok offensive machine.
The third period didn’t offer any mercy, as Logan Singleton netted his second of the night and Rocky Ricci completed his personal assault by adding his third goal of the game—a hat trick to ice the cake—with just under ten minutes to play.
“We just decided it was time to stop being polite,” one Havok bench regular joked after the game while peeling off his gear. “The puck was finding the net, and for once, we weren’t getting in our own way.”
For the Honey Badgers, it’s a night to head home, grab a cold one, and try to forget the scoreboard ever existed. Meanwhile, the Havok finally break their winless streak and hope this offensive outburst is a sign of things to come as the season starts to heat up. It wasn’t a close game by any stretch of the imagination, but if you’re a fan of seeing the lamp lit, it was a night you won’t soon forget.
