Ice Breakers Keep Rolling, Sink Greasers 7-4
Ice Breakers Keep Rolling, Sink Greasers 7-4
If you arrived at the rink late on Tuesday night, you might have missed the entire first periodâand frankly, you would have missed a frantic, high-octane scramble that set the tone for the rest of the evening. The Tulsa Greasers and the Ice Breakers treated us to a back-and-forth thriller that eventually saw the league-leading Ice Breakers pull away, extending their impressive form with a 7-4 victory over the struggling Greasers.
The game kicked off like a fire drill. Joshua Hendrickson opened the scoring for the Greasers just 82 seconds into the game, but the Ice Breakers responded with the kind of ferocity that has earned them the top spot in the standings. Justice Dick went on an absolute tear, netting back-to-back goals in under a minute to swing the momentum entirely. By the time the dust settled on a wild opening frame, the scoreboard read 3-3, thanks to contributions from Gage Walker and Grant Rossi for the Greasers, and a beautiful play from Luke Morley to keep the Breakers locked in.
âIt felt like we were playing hot potato with the puck all night,â joked Breakers forward Chris Jorgensen after the game. âEvery time someone scored, the other guys looked at the scoreboard and said, âOkay, my turn.ââ
The second period shifted from a track meet to a defensive grind, at least until the Ice Breakersâ offensive engine caught fire again. Despite a couple of trips to the sin bin for the Breakers, they remained composed. Daniel Reyes broke the tie late in the second, and Jorgensenâwho seems to have a magnetic connection with the back of the net these daysâtook over. He notched two quick goals in the span of thirty seconds late in the period to give the Ice Breakers a cushion they wouldnât relinquish.
The Greasers tried to claw their way back in the third, with Dylan Walker finding the twine at the 3:34 mark to make it a 6-4 game, but there was simply no stopping the Jorgensen train. The Ice Breakers sniper completed his hat trick at 6:18, putting the game effectively on ice and cementing his status as one of the hottest sticks in the league.
For the Ice Breakers, the win is another feather in the cap of a team that has yet to taste defeat in regulation this season. They continue to sit pretty at the top of the standings, playing with the confidence of a club that knows exactly how to finish.
The Greasers, meanwhile, will be looking to regroup. Despite a spirited effort that kept them in the hunt for two full periods, they remain in the basement of the standings. However, if they can bottle the energy they displayed in that chaotic first period, theyâll surely be looking at a few tallies in the win column soon enough. Tonight, though, the league belongs to the Breakers, who prove once again that if you give them an inch, theyâll take the whole rink.
