Riveters Keep Rolling as Gibson Hat Trick Sinks Mother Puckers
The Tulsa Riveters proved once again why they are sitting pretty near the top of the league standings, grinding out a 5-3 victory over the Mother Puckers on Tuesday night. In a game that saw the Riveters lean on their top-end talent and a sheer refusal to let the opposition gather any real momentum, Gabi Gibson stole the show with a hat trick that served as the heartbeat of the Tulsa offense.
The Riveters didn’t waste any time finding their legs. Just over a minute into the first period, Gibson opened the scoring, unassisted, setting a tone that the Mother Puckers would spend most of the night chasing. While Jessica Hinkefent and the enigmatic “Not Signed In” managed to keep the Mother Puckers within striking distance during a back-and-forth first frame, the Riveters had an answer for everything.
That answer often came in the form of Ivy Emerson. Riding a hot streak that would make a seasoned pro blush, Emerson notched two quick goals in the first period—the first off a tidy feed from Theresa Rose Rabara and the second assisted by the league’s most mysterious offensive threat, “Not Signed In.” By the time the first intermission rolled around, the Riveters held a lead that felt heavier than the scoreboard suggested.
The Mother Puckers, still looking for their first win of the season, showed plenty of grit in the second period. Haley Griffin buried a pass from Melissa McLauchlin to tighten the gap, and for a few tense minutes, it looked like the upset-minded Puckers might find their footing. Even a roughing penalty assessed to Emerson midway through the period couldn’t spark a comeback for the visitors. Instead, it was the Riveters who tightened the screws.
“We knew they were desperate for a win, and desperate teams play fast,” said one Riveter defender between periods. “But we just kept dumping it deep and letting Gabi do what Gabi does.”
What Gibson did was finish. With the game sitting at 4-3 midway through the third, Gibson struck for her third of the night—her second unassisted tally of the game—to put the contest on ice. It was a classic “two-minute drill” style of play: smart, efficient, and devoid of the unnecessary flair that usually gets a player in trouble with the refs.
For the Mother Puckers, the loss keeps them firmly at the bottom of the standings at 0-4-1. It’s been a rough go for them this season, but if they keep finding chemistry in the offensive zone like they did tonight, a breakthrough has to be around the corner.
The Riveters, meanwhile, continue their push toward the top of the table. With a 3-0-2 record, they remain unbeaten in regulation and look every bit the team to beat as we head into the thick of the regular season. If Gibson keeps finding the net and Emerson keeps her point streak alive, the Riveters look like a group that isn’t planning on slowing down anytime soon.
